Before you start
Ellie connects to your AI assistant through MCP (Model Context Protocol). Setup takes a few minutes once you have the right accounts in place.
You’ll need
- An Element Human account — Ellie signs you in with the same email and password you use for Workbench. No account yet? Create one.
- A supported AI environment — Claude (any plan), Gemini Enterprise or ChatGPT.
- For organisation setup: admin rights in that environment. Users only need the sign-in.
User setup or org setup? Most people only need User setup. If your company runs its AI through a managed workspace, an admin may need to add Ellie once first, using Org setup.
Setup
Choose your platform, then your role.
- Open Claude → Settings → Connectors. If your organisation has added Ellie you’ll see it listed. On an individual plan, add it yourself with Add custom connector and the URL
https://mcp.elementhuman.com/ellie. - Click Connect. A sign-in window opens — use your Element Human Workbench email and password, then allow access. No account yet? Create one from the sign-in page.
- Enable Ellie in a chat. Start a new conversation, open the tools / connectors menu and make sure Ellie is switched on.
- Ask a first question. See Verify the connection for a quick test.
Who can add Ellie depends on your plan and settings. Every Claude plan supports custom connectors. On individual plans you add them yourself. On Team and Enterprise plans only Owners can add them for the organisation; members connect to what has been added, and can request a connector if the Owner has enabled Let members request connectors.
- Sign in as an Owner. On Team plans, only Owners and Primary Owners can add a custom connector for the organisation; on Enterprise, custom roles with Manage access to Libraries can too.
- Open Settings → Connectors. Choose Add custom connector.
- Enter Ellie’s details. Name it
Ellieand use the remote MCP server URLhttps://mcp.elementhuman.com/ellie. Claude handles the OAuth handshake automatically. - Set permissions. For each of Ellie’s tools you can choose Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked; this applies to the whole organisation and members can’t override it.
- Send your team the User setup steps. In Claude the connection is authorised per person — each teammate signs in with their own Workbench credentials even when you add the connector for the organisation.
- Open the Gemini Enterprise app link. Your admin will have shared this with you.
- Sign in to Ellie. When prompted, use your Element Human Workbench email and password. No account yet? Create one from the sign-in page.
- Check the connector is on. Click Connectors and make sure the Ellie toggle is enabled.
- Confirm you’re signed in. Hover over the link button next to Ellie — it should read Unauthorize. That means your sign-in worked.
- Ask a first question. See Verify the connection.
- Open Google’s guide. Follow Set up a custom MCP server in the Gemini Enterprise documentation.
- Create the connector with these values.
MCP server URL https://mcp.elementhuman.com/ellieAuthorization URL https://api.elementhuman.com/auth/authorizeToken URL https://api.elementhuman.com/auth/tokenClient ID gemini-eh-customerUse HTTP Basic Authentication Off (disable this option) - Enable the Actions available through Ellie. Turn on each action the connector exposes so Ellie can use them.
- Get the link to your Gemini Enterprise app. Google’s Get started with Gemini Enterprise guide shows where to find it.
- Share two things with your team. The app link, and the User setup steps. In Gemini the connection is set up once per organisation — users only need to sign in.
- Open ChatGPT Plugins. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins on the web. If your workspace has already published Ellie, install her from there and continue at step 4.
- Add Ellie as a custom MCP server. Select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Name it
Ellie, enter the URLhttps://mcp.elementhuman.com/ellieand choose OAuth as the authentication method. - Create the plugin. Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.
- Install Ellie and sign in. Install the plugin. When the sign-in window opens, use your Element Human Workbench email and password, then allow access. No account yet? Create one from the sign-in page.
- Select Ellie in a chat. Start a new conversation, type
@in the prompt box and select Ellie. - Ask a first question. See Verify the connection for a quick test.
Who can add Ellie depends on your plan and settings. On a personal account you add her yourself, with no admin needed. In a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace, admins and owners add her and publish her for the team. OpenAI limits some plans to read and fetch actions, so not all of Ellie’s actions may be available there.
- Sign in as an admin or owner. On Business, only admins and owners can create and publish plugins for custom MCP servers. On Enterprise and Edu, admins can also grant this permission to selected members with role-based access.
- Add Ellie as a custom MCP server. Open chatgpt.com/plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server. Name it
Ellie, enter the URLhttps://mcp.elementhuman.com/ellieand choose OAuth as the authentication method. - Create the plugin. Review the risk warning, select I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.
- Test and publish it for your workspace. Review the tools ChatGPT found on the server, test the connection, then publish it from your workspace settings.
- Send your team the User setup steps. Share the User setup steps. Each person installs Ellie and signs in with their own Workbench credentials.
Create an account
If you don’t have an Element Human account yet, you can create one from the sign-in page.
- Open the sign-in page. Follow the User setup steps for your platform until the sign-in page opens in your browser.
- Switch to signup mode. Add
&view=signupto the end of the URL in your browser’s address bar and press Enter. The page reloads as Create your account. - Enter your details. Add your name, email and a password, accept the terms, then select Create account.
- Confirm your email. Open the confirmation email and select the activation link. A new page confirms your account is active.
- Finish connecting. If you’re asked to, return to your AI assistant and sign in with your new details.
Verify the connection
Once connected, start a new chat, make sure Ellie is enabled, and ask her something only she could know — for example which of your organisation’s studies she can see. If she answers with your projects, you’re set. If you get a generic answer, the request didn’t reach her: see Troubleshooting.
Address Ellie by name. Starting your question with “Ellie, …” tells the assistant to route it to her instead of answering from general knowledge. Try: “Ellie, which studies can you see for my organisation?” — a list of your projects means you’re connected. In ChatGPT, type @ and select Ellie first. A new account may not have any projects yet, so ask “Ellie, what can you do?” instead.
Using Ellie
Ellie is your decision partner for marketing — ask her the questions you’d ask a sharp colleague before you spend: which creative deserves the budget, which creator to book, where in the feed the product should appear, how long a piece of content should run for your audience.
Use her for the work you actually need to do, in your own words. There is no list of approved prompts, and how you naturally ask is useful to us.
Ellie is in early access. She will sometimes be incomplete or wrong. Verify numbers before they go in front of a client, ask her which study or dataset informed an answer when it matters, and tell us when something looks off — that feedback shapes what she becomes.
Troubleshooting
The connector won’t save or authorise (Gemini)
- Confirm your organisation has Gemini Enterprise — not Google Workspace Enterprise. They are different products.
- Check Use HTTP Basic Authentication is off and the URLs match the table exactly.
I’m signed in, but answers don’t use Ellie
- Check the Ellie connector toggle is on, and that the link button shows Unauthorize (Gemini) Ellie is enabled in the tools menu (Claude), or you’ve selected her with
@in the chat (ChatGPT). - Start a fresh chat and address Ellie directly in your question.
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
- Restart Ellie: disconnect the connector, then connect again and sign in. This clears most one-off glitches.
Sign-in fails
- ChatGPT may ask you to sign in to Ellie again from time to time. Use the same Workbench details.
- If you’ve just created an account, select the activation link in your confirmation email first, then try again.
- If your details used to work and no longer do, your account may have been deactivated. Email hello@elementhuman.com and we’ll look into it.
- Use your Workbench email and password — the same ones that work at workbench.elementhuman.com. Reset it there if needed.
Ellie can’t see a study I expected
- Access follows your organisation’s projects and what they include. If something you expect is missing, tell your Element Human team and we’ll check it.
Getting help
There is one route for everything Ellie-related: the channel you already use with your Element Human team, or hello@elementhuman.com. You never need to work out whether something is a data, product or setup question — we route it.
What to include
- Roughly when it happened.
- The prompt you used.
- Which platform you were in (Claude, Gemini or ChatGPT).
That’s enough for us to find the session and look into it.
If Ellie can’t complete something, your Element Human team will. The service you receive today doesn’t change while Ellie is in early access.
